This course caters for those students who wish to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain / Naturalisation and meets the requirements of the Home Office. The course will allow students to gain more practical knowledge of life in the UK as well as develop their knowledge of the English Language.
We offer this course in Speaking & Listening or Reading and Writing. These modes
may be taken individually or as a whole unit, and are offered at the following levels:
Before you make an application for British Citizenship/indefinite leave, you will need to demonstrate your knowledge of language and life in the UK. This can be done in two ways:
If your English language skills are at Entry level 3 or above, you will need to take the “Life in the UK” test.
If your English language skills are at Entry level 3 or below, then you will need to follow an ESOL Skills for Life course in Context of Citizenship.
This course includes citizenship materials. The course will allow you to gain sufficient knowledge of life in the UK as well as develop your knowledge of the English Language. Before you apply for citizenship, you will need to show that you have moved up from one ESOL level to the next. You will need to provide evidence of this part of your application. To get more information visit www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk. You will also need a Performa (confirmation of achievement) letter from the college confirming that the certificate was gained from a course that delivered ESOL in a citizenship context, thus meeting the language requirements.
Applicants must achieve the ESOL qualification in at least Speaking and Listening at Entry level 1, 2 or 3 (ESOL Skills for life).
If your English skills are higher than ESOL Entry 3, you will need to pass the ‘Life
in the UK’ test before you submit your application for citizenship.
We deliver this course in context of citizenship with learning materials obtained from the ‘Citizenship Materials for ESOL learners’ pack produced for the Home Office by NIACE and LLU+. This is in accordance to the regulations of the Home Office.
